QUICK HELP

Install help

The launch version keeps the path deliberately short. Before troubleshooting, make sure macOS, Node.js 22.4+, and Codex Desktop are ready.

Apply a theme for the first time

Open a theme marked Ready to install, choose Copy & apply with Codex, and paste it into a local Codex task. The copied instruction asks the Agent to run our exact pinned package in an interactive local shell and never substitute an installed theme skill. Approve local execution only when Codex asks. A web-only chat cannot access your Mac; use the Terminal fallback beside the main button instead.

Create a private skin from your image

Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image on the home page. The preview stays in your browser while you adjust visibility, darkness, blur, zoom, and position. Select Create private skin only when the preview is ready, then use the same guided Codex path or copy the raw Terminal command.

Reapply after reopening Codex

npx --yes @codextheme/cli@0.2.10 reapply

reapply reads the validated local theme cache. It does not need to access codextheme.tech, including after a private link expires.

Restore the official appearance

npx --yes @codextheme/cli@0.2.10 restore

restore is safe to run more than once. Local state is removed after a complete restore or after confirming that no active injection remains.

Why does the CLI ask to reopen Codex?

Some themes also adjust Codex appearance settings. Reopening keeps the renderer and those settings in sync. The guided Codex instruction requests an interactive PTY so the CLI can preserve this consent step. After you approve, the CLI prepares an owner-only one-shot helper, returns, and lets that independent process reopen Codex, apply the theme, verify it, and show the result in a macOS notification. The current Codex task may end during that expected restart.

Still not working?

Do not use sudo or modify the Codex application bundle. Run restore first. For installation or compatibility help, contact codextheme@codextheme.tech with only the error code and Codex version. Never send conversations, tokens, or personal paths.
